On October 4, 2023, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy (“MIME”), of Tunisia organized a dialogue on Tunisia’s National Green Hydrogen Strategy in which representatives from the public sector, the private sector, civil society and academics were present to be part of the dialogue.
Tunisia, with its abundant solar potential and strategic location, is well positioned to play a leading role in green hydrogen for domestic consumption and export. It is currently working on the development of the national strategy to seize the opportunity for economic and industrial development that can reduce imports of oil and its derived products, thus improving the trade balance and promoting job creation. The National Green Hydrogen Strategy states that Tunisia aims to produce 8.3 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2050 of which 6 million tonnes are for export.
Following the workshop, the MIME will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to consolidate the ideas and recommendations before the release of the National Green Hydrogen Strategy.
