Meet the Team
Joseph Zammit
Chairman
Over the last 35 years Joseph has steered the activities of the Zammit Group, one of Malta’s leading organizations, into the automotive, maritime and oil and gas sectors. Under his stewardship the Zammit Group has been a trusted partner for leading international groups such as IZUZU, HONDA, Ford, AGIP, Shell, AMOCO and Marathon Oil, among others, and has expanded operations across the Mediterranean region. During the last few years Joseph has further diversified the group’s interests into renewable energy.
Pierre Bernard
Director and Member of the Executive Commitee
Pierre brings over 30 years of senior Executive experience within the utility sector across Europe, Canada and the US. Previously Pierre was Chief Legal Counsel and Head of Business Development at Elia Group (the Belgian Grid Operator) where he oversaw the Elia Group’s IPO and its acquisition of 50Hertz, the German Grid Operator. Pierre is founder of Bernard Energy and a former partner at Phillipe & Partners law firm in Brussels.
Alastair Zammit
Director
Alastair’s has over 17 years of experience as an executive director of the Zammit Group, leading investments in a wide variety of industries. He brings deep experience in the automotive; oil and gas; and maritime industry in North Africa and the Middle east.
Daniel Rich
Chief Executive Officer, Director and Member of the Executive Committee
With 15 years of experience in energy and telecoms, Daniel has spent over 12 years in the renewable energy sector developing projects in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Since 2018 Daniel has been CEO of TuNur Ltd and is based in Tunisia, and is responsible for overseeing the company’s diversification into new activities including renewable energy, transmission and green hydrogen. Daniel sits on the Board of Tunur Green Hydrogen Ltd, the dedicated green hydrogen platform established between Tunur and Helios Investment Partners.
Cherif Ben Khelifa
Chief Strategy Officer, Director and Member of the Executive Committee
With 30 years’ experience in various roles in the Energy sector he commenced his career as a petroleum engineer with Total, before working for several well-known oil companies such as Shell, Noble Energy, and Lundin. During his career Cherif successfully led the development, exploitation, as well as decommissioning of several offshore oil fields including in Tunisia.
Davide Biron
Chief Financial and Operations Officer, and Member of the Executive Committee
Davide has over 25 years C-Suite experience in multinationals such as General Electric, UniCredit, FedEx, World Bank and CMA-CGM in Europe, the US, Africa and Asia. During this time he held key roles including CFO of GE Capital Finance Italy, and CFO of UniCredit Global Banking and UniCredit Business Partner. Prior to joining TuNur, Davide was Executive Director of Hili ventures, a leading Maltese investment firm with activities in real estate, logistics and energy services.
Chiheb Bouden
Senior Advisor
Currently Head of Department of Industrial Engineering, at the National Engineering School of Tunis (ENIT), Chiheb is leading many research programmes, including with the EU on Hydrogen and Solar Energy. Dr Bouden was formerly a Minister of Higher Education in Tunisia.
Gerke Visser
Senior Advisor
With over 25 years of experience in the offshore sector with Van Oord and Elia among others, Gerke has overseen the development and construction of major offshore projects including offshore wind and subsea transmission. Previously on the Steering Committee of Nemo Link (UK-BE 1400MW Interconnector), and Director of Offshore Solutions at Elia.
Kevin Sara
Senior Advisor
Kevin has over 30 years’ experience as an investor and entrepreneur. He was responsible for technology principal investments at Nomura, and co-founded Hazel Capital, one of the first cleantech investment . Kevin founded and is Chairman of Nur Energie a solar development company with landmark projects in Europe, and is currently a partner at Rive Investments, a leading private equity firm based in Paris.
Ameni Bouafif
Operations Manager
Ameni has over 10 years’ experience in Finance and HR in the Energy and Oil & Gas sector. Ameni previously worked as Administrative and Financial Officer for 5 years with Anadarko Tunisia; a subsidiary of the American Petroleum Company Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. Ameni has a master’s degree in Banking from ESSEC Tunis.
Chokri Turki
Project Delivery Manager
Chokri brings over 30 years’ experience in the construction sector in Tunisia, having worked for Pireco, Air Liquide and EMCO consultancy group. Chokri has extensive experience in project Delivery having been involved in the delivery of several large infrastructure projects including oil & gas platforms; wastewater treatment; pipelines; and chemical plants. He has a master’s degree in Energetic Systems from Perpignan University in France.
Zeid Barhoumi
Transmission and Distribution Manager
With experience of over 20 years in HVDC including HV substations design delivery and technical project management with ALSTOM T&D, AREVA T&D, with international experience in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. During this time Zeid has been involved in the design and construction multiple STEG HV substations and most recently worked on $20 billion Riyadh metro project with ALSTOM Transport as power supply engineering manager.
Mohamed Halila
Generation Manager
Over 11 years of professional experience in the Tunisian energy sector with 7 years’ experience in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Mohamed spent 4 years with Ansaldo/SNC Lavalin in the building, commissioning and maintenance of STEGs 420 MW combined cycle power plant leading the mechanical commissioning department. Following this he worked for three years at STEG ER responsible of site and environment studies for renewable energy projects on behalf of STEG and the private sector.
Achraf Smaoui
Business Development Manager, Hydrogen
With a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Engineering School of Monastir, Achraf has worked at Tunur since 2019 covering a range of renewable energies projects, and more recently in the development of the green hydrogen activities. He also specializes in generation and transmission modelling and cost analysis.
